The U-M Standard Practice Guide: Children on Campus 601.34 requires registration of programs and events and provides guidance for all programs, events and studies serving children.
These guidelines are also expected to be followed for programs and events that are not sponsored by the university but take place on university campuses or in university facilities.
These guidelines apply to programs and activities under the direction and authority of the university on all campuses (UM-Ann Arbor, Michigan Medicine, UM-Flint, UM-Dearborn, Athletics) or off-campus.
Exceptions include:
- Students under the age of 18 who have been admitted to an undergraduate or graduate academic degree program or who have matriculated to the University of Michigan.
- Children involved in research in compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines.- This exemption was removed effective September 14, 2021
- Children employed by the University of Michigan.
- Events open to the public and which children attend at the sole discretion of their parents/guardians.
- Children receiving direct patient care.
