Background checks for faculty, staff, students and volunteers for U-M programs must be repeated every two years. If a criminal record history is revealed, the application will be referred to Risk Management Services for evaluation consistent with SPG 201.95: Background Screening Policy.

Background checks are provided by the university at no cost to university-sponsored programs. Download the Background Screening Decision Matrix.

Program administrators of non-university-sponsored programs are required to certify that they have conducted criminal background checks and determined the fitness of all volunteers and program or event staff before being allowed to use or lease university facilities.
